Hace apenas unos días, un experto odontólogo explicaba en una cadena de televisión que el chocolate y el cacao eran beneficiosos para la salud de los dientes ¿increíble verdad? Pues bien, a partir de ese momento se ha empezado a comercializar pasta de dientes de cacao.
Esta nueva teoría contradice por completo que el chocolate sea malo para los dientes y que se deba reducir su consumo por ese motivo ahora mismo queda muy lejos. Sin embargo, la clave está en el cacao, ya que es el azúcar que lleva el chocolate, entre otras cosas, lo que favorece que te aparezcan caries. Por tanto, es bueno tomar una dosis de chocolate por diferentes razones pero se debe consumir con moderación y cuidar los dientes diariamente.
Pero si comes cacao 100% puro no hay ningún problema. El cacao ha pasado a ser un ingrediente realmente bueno para los dientes gracias a un compuesto químico que lleva, el cual se le conoce como teobromina que previene la aparición de caries y reduce la sensibilidad dental.
Este compuesto químico concretamente es un alcaloide y su concentración en el cacao varía del 2% hasta el 10%. En medicina, la teobromina se utiliza para tratar problemas de la circulación de la sangre, como la arteriosclerosis, angina de pecho e hipertensión porque tiene efectos vasodilatadores y diuréticos.
Actualmente se está empezando a utilizar en odontología una pasta dentífrica que contiene teobromina.
Aunque este tipo de pasta de dientes tiene un coste más elevado, ayuda a mejorar la sensibilidad dental a través del rennou. Este extracto natural que procede del cacao permite mejorar los problemas de sensibilidad con bastante eficacia.
Como métodos tradicionales puedes utilizar las pastas dentífricas, colutorios y geles ricos en flúor para la prevención de caries y los que contienen nitrato potásico para tratar la sensibilidad.
Otro consejo para evitar la aparición de sensibilidad es la de utilizar cepillos de cerdas más suaves y sin cepillarse demasiado fuerte.
